Earlier this week Chula Vista (CA) Firefighter Jacob Gregorie and other firefighters were responding to rollover crash when an unnamed CHP officer arrived on the scene. The CHP officer demanded the firetrucks blocking traffic be moved. He sent two of the three trucks away. Gregorie stated that he couldn’t move his truck because it was protecting first responders. The entire argument happened while the victim Robert Chavez lay nearby on a stretcher.
“It’s unbelievable you have to do this,” the unidentified police officer said while slapping cuffs on Gregoire.
“It’s unbelievable that you guys have to treat us like this,” the firefighter responded. “We are on the road trying to help people.”
“We asked you,” the cop shot back. “We asked you to clear the road and you said no, and you are getting arrested for not moving it.” Source: Christian Post
Apparently, CHP has a long-standing difficulties with the Chula Vista Fire Department. CHP officers have interfered with firefighters before and threatened arrest. It is really mind-boggling that the CHP officer would believe that he should interrupt a rescue in progress. Yes, CHP does need to keep the roads open. However it is clear from the video footage that the truck is protecting emergency personnel as well as the victim on the ground. I think it is time for the cowardly power-hungry officer to step forward and take responsibility for his actions. It is time for Mr. Big-Shot to step forward and take responsibility for his actions.
