That is an excellent question, though I’ll be the first to admit it’s something I often struggle with. Truthfully, I do not like the unknown. I prefer to know the plan. I want to see the roadmap, understand the “how,” and know exactly when things are going to happen.
When faced with life’s unpredictable moments, my faith is what grounds me. Dealing with uncertainty becomes manageable only when I shift my focus away from trying to control every detail. As the classic Ira Stanphill hymn reminds us, we don’t have to figure out every single detail of tomorrow to have peace today.
“Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand;
But I know who holds tomorrow, and I know who holds my hand.”
My assurance in facing the future doesn’t rest in my own abilities, wisdom, or strength. Nor is it dependent on living a perfectly stress-free life devoid of challenges.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
When we stop leaning on our need to know everything, we can start leaning on the One who already does.
Ultimately, my confidence is built on the secure promise God has given us—a future with Him in heaven. The Apostle Paul echoed this hope in Romans 8:28:
We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we can step into the unknown with complete confidence because we know the One who holds our hand.
