My theme for 2010 was “make a difference”. I wanted to stop complaining about things or just thinking someone should do something about that. Instead I decided to do something. One of the things I did was to become involved with an adult literacy program.
As a professional educator who has taught everything from preschool to high school it was a very different experience. Most of the students truly wanted to be get an education. They had learned why being able to read, write and have a high school diploma was important.
Like me many had learning disabilities that made school difficult. I realized just how fortunate I was to have a mom who was a reading specialist and determined I would learn to read despite the severity of my dyslexia. Let’s just say my learning to read was not a pleasant experience for all involved.
I think about 10 people got GED’s through the program. It is humbling to see the pride and sense of accomplishment in the students. For some this may be the first big achievement.

This is really a great accomplishment and definately something to be proud of! Hello, Ive been reading your blog posts for quite some tim now. I enjoy it very much! And I also thank you for keeping it updated, because there have even ben times when I, not only wanted to read your most recent post, but needed it! So again, thank you, and congrates. I hope this is not considered rude or anything in the blog world, but I recently have been asked by my boss to use the blog platform to promote the small store that I work at. Ive watched youtube videos, researched other blogs, and “self help blogger” websites as well. Today was actually the launch of my fully created blog (very tough actually!)called christianapparelinternational.wordpress.com. Like I said Ive been following your writing for a long time now, and well, your blog is very popular, and your posts very good. So could I ask the help of an expert like you, just to take a look at it (before my boss does 🙂 and maybe critique it as you see it, or give me a few pointers here and there? I would really really appreciate it! And now that I know how, Ive subscribed to your RSS Feed and now will be able to keep up with your posts on every update so be ready because I am looking forward to commenting many times on the great topics that you bring up!
