What is a moment in your life that you are grateful for?

When I reflect on moments in my life that fill me with gratitude, one particular memory stands out vividly is when reading finally clicked for me. Learning to read proved to be an enormous challenge due to my struggle with dyslexia. In kindergarten and first grade, I found myself amongst the lowest readers in my class.

Every day, or at least most days, my mom would sit down with me and insist that I practice reading. Those moments were undeniably tough. I often found myself in tears, and even my mom shed tears as well. When I would ask why I needed to learn to read my responded that reading is lower and if you can read you can do anything.

By the end of second grade, something remarkable happened. I began to crack the code of reading, and for the first time, it felt like I was making genuine progress. By the time I reached the end of third grade, my reading abilities had soared well beyond my grade level, and I developed an insatiable appetite for books. I voraciously devoured everything in sight, exploring new worlds and diving into adventures with every turn of the page.

This pivotal moment in my life, the day when reading finally became a source of joy rather than frustration, is a memory I hold dear. It’s a testament to the power of perseverance, support from loved ones, and the potential for transformation that lies within each of us. Today, I am grateful not only for the gift of reading but for the unwavering determination that led me to this newfound love for books.
