Holy Week — Monday

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 (NLT)

And Can It Be That I Should Gain?
By Charles Wesley & Thomas Campbell
Preformed by the Gaithers and Friends

And can it be that I should gain
an interest in the Savior’s blood?
Died he for me, who caused his pain
for me, who caused his bitter death?
Amazing love! How can it be
that you, my Lord, should die for me?

Refrain:
Amazing love! How can it be
that you, my Lord, should die for me?!

No condemnation now I dread,
for Christ, and all in him, is mine!
Alive in him, my living Head,
and clothed in righteousness divine,
bold I approach the eternal throne
and claim the crown, through Christ, my own.

Refrain

Holy Week: Wednesday

Because of grace…

God sent his son.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV

Christ took my place.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, I Corinthians 15:3-4 ESV

I have been redeemed.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight Ephesians 1:7-8 ESV

I have hope.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

This is Amazing Grace by Phil Wickham

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of glory, the King above all Kings

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
Leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of glory, the King above all Kings

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Jesus I sing for all that You’ve done for me

Who brings our chaos back into order
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter
The King of glory, the King of glory

Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The king of glory, the King above all Kings

Worthy is the lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave

Holy Week: Tuesday

As I prepared for Holy Week this year the theme of Grace resounded. It is much easier to accept that somehow by doing the right things I can somehow make up for my short comings. The truth is that I just can’t, no human can. That it was God’s enormous love for us that he created a plan for my redemption.

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 (NLT)

And can it be, that I should gain an interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love, how can it be? that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

He left His Father’s throne above, so free, so infinite His grace;
Emptied Himself of all but love, and bled for Adam’s helpless race;
‘Tis mercy all, immense and free; for, O my God, it found out me.
Amazing love, how can it be? that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Long my imprisoned spirit lay fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light –
My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth, and followed Thee!
Amazing love, how can it be? that Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Come to the Cross

For Christians Holy Week, (the week between Palm Sunday and Easter) is one of high points of the year. It is a time for reflection and remembrance. To remember the sacrifice that Christ willing made for each of us. To reflect on the undeserved richness of God’s grace and the unknown depth of His love.

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Romans 5:6-11 ESV
