Holy Week Theme: Love with No End

For me Holy Week is a time of reflection. For the past several weeks I’ve been struck by the depth of God’s love.

Love motivated God to create a plan for my redemption.

Love was the reason he sent His only son to take my place.

Love was why Christ willingly laid down His life.

Shine On Us Performed by Avalon
Words and Music by Michael & Debbie Smith

Lord, let your light, light of your face shine on us.
Lord, let your light, light of your face shine on us.
that we may be saved, that we may have life
to find our way in the darkest night.
Let your light shine on us.

Lord, let your grace, grace from your hand fall on us.
Lord, let your grace, grace from your hand fall on us.
that we may be saved, that we may have life
to find our way in the darkest night.
Let your grace fall on us.

Lord, let your love, love with no end come over us.
Lord, let your love, love with no end come over us.
that we may be saved, that we may have life
to find our way in the darkest night.
Let your love come over us.

From Triumph to this …

For Jesus’s Disciples the week and been a blur of emotions and activity. The week began with the triumphal entry into Jerusalem to and ended  with betrayal of Jesus by one of their own, arrest, trials and brutal death. On Saturday the Christ’s followers are left alone defeated and scared trying to process the events of the past few hours. Was Jesus really the Son of God? What went wrong? So many questions.

Buried In Grave by All Sons & Daughters

There was a day we held our breath
And felt the sting of bitter death
When all our hopes were buried in the grave

Our eyes awake, Our hearts were torn
Between our faith and what we knew
Before our King was buried in the grave

Grace was in the tension
Of everything we’ve lost
Standing empty handed
Shattered by the cross

All we had, all we had
Was a promise like a thread
Holding us, keeping us
oh from fraying at the edge

All we knew, all we knew
is you said you’€™d come again
You’d rise, you’€™d rise up from the dead

There was a day we looked for proof
That you had risen from the tomb
And all our doubts began to roll away

We touched the scars upon your hands
You kept your word, Son of Man
You buried death by taking on the grave

You came here to save us
‘Cause everything was lost
No longer empty handed
Clinging to the cross

Good Friday: Hallelujah! What A Savior

3 He was despised and rejected by men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:3-5 ESV

Hallelujah! What A Savior by Phillip Bliss
Performed by Ascend the Hill

Man of Sorrows! what a name
for the Son of God, who came
ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
in my place condemned he stood;
sealed my pardon with his blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
spotless Lamb of God was he;
full atonement can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was he to die;
“It is finished!” was his cry;
now in heaven exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When he comes, our glorious King,
all his ransomed home to bring,
then anew this song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

What if…

Christmas is over. Decorations will be put away soon. Christmas vacation will be over soon. Life will return to normal every day busyness.  The focus on peace, good tidings and even Christ will fade.  Does it have to? What would it be like if it didn’t?

What would happen in my life or your life if in 2014 I/we don’t forgot that Christmas is about God’s love for us, redemption and mercy. Instead of focusing on self I/we focus on sharing God’s love and message of redemption with others. I’m not talking about preaching “Turn or Burn type message. But rather living life in a way that reflects my faith. Being aware of opportunities so share or show God’s love and mercy with others.

What if in 2014 like the shepherds and angels my/our focus was on truly worship Christ? What impact would it make in my/your life if worship became more than just an hour on sound?

Holy Week: The Saving One

10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:10-13 New Living Translation

The Saving One by Starfield

What mercy was revealed
What selflessness and peace
My fate was surely sealed
Until He rescued me
His pardon for my sin
His bounty for my need
From slavery and shame
I am redeemed

And Heaven can’t contain
The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

No fear can hold me down
Nor darkness steal my joy
For blood has been poured out
The enemy destroyed
Death could not hold Him down
The cross was not enough
To steal away His throne
For He is God

And Heaven can’t contain
The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One

Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved
Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved

And Heaven can’t contain
The glory of the Son
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One
His love has made a way
The grave is overcome
Jesus is the Christ, the saving One [x2]

Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved
Anyone who calls upon His name
They will be saved
They will be saved

Good Friday: What Wondrous Love is This?

Ultimately it was love that motivated God to send his Son to take my place. It was love that motivated Christ to lay down his life for me.

What Wondrous Love is This? Performed by Steve Green

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul.

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down, sinking down,
When I was sinking down beneath God’s righteous frown,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul,
Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing.
To God and to the Lamb Who is the great “I Am”;
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;
While millions join the theme, I will sing.

And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing and joyful be;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And through eternity, I’ll sing on.
