As I write this, I am currently recovering from a bout of food poisoning, which definitely puts a damper on your usual routines. When you are stuck feeling under the weather, it is amazing how much a small, thoughtful gesture from someone else can completely turn your day around.
The Big Guy has been an absolute rock. Not only did he put in a full day of teaching, but he also stayed late after school to run tutorials for his students. Despite being completely exhausted by the time he wrapped up work, the very first thing on his mind was taking care of me. He called me from his car to check in and ask for my input on what I might actually feel up to eating.
We decided on a sandwich place that happened to be on his commute home. Normally, I stick to one of three very plain options—just meat and cheese, keeping it simple and safe. But this time around, I decided to be a little adventurous and try something new, even though it was quite a bit more expensive than my usual order. Without a single complaint, sigh, or hesitation, he picked it up and brought it right to me.
It might seem like a small thing to some, but kindness in the middle of discomfort means everything. When you are sick and worn out, having a partner who is willing to go out of his way to comfort you is a profound reminder of God’s love in action. Today, I am deeply thankful for the everyday acts of kindness that make the hard days so much easier to bear.
