Finding joy doesn’t always require grand gestures or major milestones. Most days, it’s the quiet, ordinary moments that anchor us and make life sweet. Here are five everyday things that never fail to bring a smile to my face:
- Quality Time with “The Big Guy” – We don’t need an elaborate itinerary or big plans. Just being in the same room, sharing the quiet moments, and enjoying each other’s presence is more than enough.
- My Dog, Leo – He can certainly be a handful at times, but he is a truly wonderful dog. Nothing brightens my day faster than playing with him or curling up on the couch for a good snuggle session.
- A Good Cup of Coffee – There’s something sacred about the morning coffee routine. I love using locally roasted beans, brewing a fresh batch in my French press, and finishing it off with just a hint of cream. It’s simple, comforting perfection.
- My Job at Camp of the Hills – It might sound unusual to list work as a daily source of happiness, but my job is truly special. Camp of the Hills exists to create a space where people can encounter God and experience His presence. About 35 years ago, a group of inner-city kids were kicked out of another camp simply because they didn’t “fit in”—they lacked the right gear, background, and attitude. Thankfully, a sponsor connected with the owners of our current land; arrangements were made to camp by the lake, and our ministry was born. Today, we’re a smaller camp designed to give extra TLC to kids and teens who need it most—including youth in foster care or adoption, at-risk youth, military families, or others needing extra care. Watching lives transform here makes every day meaningful.
- A Good Book – Few things beat the feeling of getting completely lost in a great story. Slipping away into a good book for a little while is one of my favorite ways to recharge.
