The Big Guy and I discovered this funky place on one of our treks across I-10. The Derailed Diner is inside the Oasis Travel Center, Robertsdale, Alabama (I-10 exit 53). If you are on I-10 it is worth planning a stop here. Be prepared to spend some time looking around as well. The entire store has a lot of cool stuff.
Rating:
Food: The food is outstanding. It is not the standard truck or travel stop food. Good quality food and the portions are very generous. The food is one of the things that make the Oasis Travel Center a true Oasis. If you have food allergies be prepared to ask a lot of questions. We found the server’s very willing to help. Oh, be sure to save room for dessert.
Selection: They have a very large and creative selection. They are open 24/7 so the menu does include breakfast items as well. Be sure to check their Facebook page for the daily special.
Service: “Southern hospitality” is their trademark. The servers are friendly and fast. They even work well with allergy issues.
Atmosphere: The outside of the Oasis Travel Center is what made us stop the first time. It is just a very neat place. Be sure to take time to look around at all of the cool things they have. It is has a funky vibe going.
Allergy Rating: Excellent. Just ask a lot of questions. They do not have an allergy menu but will work with you.
Overall: Awesome! This is a must stop on any time we are in the area.
