Music has always been important to me. Songs often transport be back to another time and place. Today as we were singing Wherever He Lead’s I’ll Go I was transported back to a hot summer night at a Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center in south-eastern Oklahoma. It was at this camp that I begin to grasp the concept of what it really meant to be open to God’s leadership.
Wherever He Leads I’ll Go
Tune: FALLS CREEK (Dr. McKinney often named the tunes of his hymns for where they were written of first used.)
B.B. McKinney, 1936Take up thy cross and follow Me,” I heard my Master say;
“I gave My life to ransom thee, Surrender your all today.”
Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go,
I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go.He drew me closer to His side, I sought His will to know,
And in that will I now abide, wherever He leads I’ll go.
Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go,
I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go.It may be thro’ the shadows dim, Or o’er the stormy sea,
I take my cross and follow Him, Wherever He leadeth me.
Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go,
I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go.My heart, my life, my all I bring To Christ who loves me so;
he is my Master, Lord, and King, Wherever He leads I’ll go.
Wherever He leads I’ll go, Wherever He leads I’ll go,
I’ll follow my Christ who loves me so, Wherever He leads I’ll go.
On that night many years ago I never imagined that following meant I would end of teaching adult half way across the country. What hasn’t changed is that God has a purpose and plan for me.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11, New International Version, ©2011)
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6, New International Version, ©2011)
