Flagler College is located in the heart of historic St. Augustine, Florida. Flagler College is named for Gilded Age industrialist Henry Flagler.  The historic Hotel Ponce de Leon serves a residence hall and focal point of the campus.  Built by Henry Flagler in 1888 the Hotel Ponce de Leon was an exclusive by invitation only resort. The hotel remained in operation until 1967 when it was sold to the college.  Flagler Collge opened 1968.

The fountain in the courtyard serves as a giant sun dial. Using the turtles and frogs at the bottom of the fountain it is possible to tell time. Also, the sidewalks form a Celtic cross with the fountain as the circle in the center. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a good shot of it.

The dinning hall features Tiffany glass windows. I know Tiffany glass windows in building just 4 miles from the coast seems risky to me but the glass is protected by plexiglass.  Nothing like the dinning hall from my alma mater.

  1. What an inspiring campus. I just watched a Flagler soccer game this weekend when they traveled up near my neck of the woods. How beautiful it must be to study and learn there. Awesome!

  2. I thought about it…but I don’t want to do anything that I have an obligation to do like visit others blogs and comment. Not that I wouldn’t do that anyway, but with smallish kids sometimes I can barely find the time read the few I read daily much less comment on others.

I thought about doing it informally just to do it though…not really be a part of it but still post photos every Friday if I can…

    Ty for stopping by.

    Sandy,

The only obligation is to link back to SWF and leave a comment on SWF’s blog. They want you to have your post up before putting your link into Mr. Linky. I visit everyone who visit’s me. Some weeks I check out a lot of other blogs but other times I don’t.
