For a couple of weeks I’ve been thinking thankfulness. Of course my list of things I’m thankful for include my family, the Big Guy, friends, job and faith. Today as I read this verse:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” (Lamentations 3:22-24 ESV)

God’s unfailing love is essence or underlying theme for my thankfulness. It is because of his love for me that I have life, hope and faith. No matter how many times I mess up He doesn’t give up on me. He has pursued me and redeemed me.

God’s unfailing love is also why I’ve been blessed with a loving and supportive family. I was blessed to have parents, grandparents and others that encouraged me in life and faith.

God has also blessed me with The Big Guy. I really wasn’t looking for a relationship when our paths collided. I just wanted lunch but that is another story.

Without God’s sustaining and unfailing love all of the material things are pointless. Stuff is just stuff. It is temporal and won’t last. God’s love and mercy do not end.
