January 26, Cydney Mizell and her driver, Muhammad Hadi, were kidnapped at gunpoint while working in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Mizell worked a as relief worker and teachers
Mizell taught English embroidery at a girl’s schools and helped women start cottage industries to provide an income for their families. Mizzell is a California native but attended college and graduate school in Texas. She is a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, my alma maters.
Hadi had worked for ARLDF for more than two years. He was married and had five children.
After the pair was kidnapped more than 500 Afghan women staged a demonstration asking the government to find Mizell and Hadi.

This is horrible. I certainly hope they are not dead. That would truly be tragic when she was there only to help, and has so much to offer the world.
On the other hand, it is good to know the Afghan women staged that demonstration. That tells me that even if she is gone, her legacy lives on, because she has empowered those women to do something they probably would never otherwise do.

Cyd was a dear friend and classmate in college and I am profoundly sad at the cruelty of those who would harm such a gentle kind person. I am inspired by her shining example; she knew of the security concerns, but her love for God’s children compelled her to such a sacrifice. Great will be her reward in Heaven! Rob HSU’83

I learned of the kidnapping of Cydney when I read the local paper here in Hilo, HI. Cydney was one of the most non-judgemental people that I had ever met. She visited her parents home in Washington in 2005 when I was living with them and helping to take care of their paraplegic son. I was no role model for humanity but Cydney struck me as being one of the best representatives Christ Jesus on this Earth. I will miss her.
