May 3rd marks the 30th anniversary Spam. That is right on May 3rd 1978 the first spam was sent over ARAPNet. It was advertising DEC’s new System-20 mini computers. Of course by today’s standards mini-computers weren’t that small. It was certainly bigger than my iPod and less memory. For more on the history of spam.

  1. Ugh… Spam. I could tolerate spam if it wasn’t so dirty. Isn’t there some sort of law in the works where spamming email will be illegal? I thought I heard that somewhere… I hope so!

  2. Rebecca: I’ve heard that too.

As I type this I’m looking at the DEC System 20 and thinking how far computers have come. That thing took an entire room and had less memory than my iPod.
