Daily writing prompt
What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?

Well, the Daily Writing Prompt has asked another great question. What is my middle name, and does it have any special significance? I guess it is actually 2 questions. My middle name is Elizabeth. I was named for my Granny (great-grandmother).

The featured photo is Granny. It was taken in the 1940s. Or at least that is when we think it was taken, based on the pen she is wearing. It is a bar with 2 stars. That is from World War II and was worn by the family members of those serving in the war.

Granny was almost 90 when I was born. When I thought it was cool that she was in her 90s. I loved going to her big farmhouse. It was a big white 2-story house. By the time I came along my grandparents had moved into town. Granddaddy still had cows at the farm. So he went out to the farm most days. I loved going out to see Granny and Aunt Ruby. They would spoil me. They always had a treat for me. My favorites were Aunt Ruby’s Chocolate Pudding, Granny’s Oatmeal Cookie.

Granny was my Granddaddy’s mama. As long as Granny was alive, her house was the center of all family gatherings. Sunday lunches, even family members who didn’t attend her little country church near the farm would come. Christmas Eve was always a favorite. This was the highlight of the year. We would gather for our annual gift exchange, surrounded by an incredible spread of food, endless family stories, and lots of laughter.

So, back to the original question, my Granny and I shared the same middle name. I feel honored to have been given her name. Granny was the matriarch who held the fabric of our family together. Knowing that we share the name Elizabeth is an honor.
