Racism is wrong. There is no place for it in a civilized society. It is certainly not acceptable from the leader of our country. We need accountability and consequences. So far, the blame has been shifted to an intern/ The President has openly stated he has done nothing wrong and failed to take responsibility. It really doesn’t matter who posted the video. It was on his account and by default he is responsible.
When a leader posts a racist trope, it acts as a “permission slip.” People who previously felt social pressure to suppress racist views now feel those views are “validated” or “mainstream.” Because the President is the highest-ranking leader in the land, his words are viewed as a seal of approval. Beliefs once deemed unacceptable are pulled from the wings and moved from the fringe to the center of our culture.
At its core, racism is the dehumanization of an individual or group based on their ethnic background. It is a calculated way to limit their voice and agency. This shift affects everyone—even those who don’t openly support these views or have previously suppressed them. It is especially dangerous for younger generations who are still forming their worldviews and looking to leaders to define what is “normal.”
A Biblical Mandate
Racism fundamentally contradicts the teachings of the Bible. Scripture commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31) and upholds the absolute sanctity of human life. One of the most basic principles of our faith is that every person—regardless of background—is created in God’s own image (Genesis 1:27). To dehumanize another person is to insult the Creator who made them. The Bible reminds us that God does not show favoritism (Acts 10:34) . We are called to seek justice and rebuke the oppressor (Isaiah 1:17).
The Path Forward
In the face of this, we must decide how to respond. We have a responsibility to speak up, as silence is often interpreted as agreement. We must call out those who espouse racist rhetoric, whether in our private circles or public forums. Demand accountability from our leaders. A civilized society cannot survive when its leaders set a tone of division and dehumanization. We must choose a better path and hold the line for the dignity of all people.
