“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)

Surrender turns goals into God-directed steps. One lifelong struggle for me is allowing God to lead—especially in seasons of waiting. This becomes painfully true when I sense God leading me in a direction, a mission, or a path, but the progress feels slow or delayed.

As my tagline says, I have ADHD. For me, part of that means wanting to hurry through everything. I become impatient, despise waiting, and just want to get on with whatever I think I am supposed to be doing.

God’s ways are not the same as ours (Isaiah 55:8). He sees the entire path, not just the next step. He also uses life to shape and refine us into the people He desires us to become (James 1:2-4). Sometimes that happens through obstacles. Many times, it happens through the relationships He brings into our lives.

Waiting is not passive. It is not wasted time. It is often where growth happens, even when it feels uncomfortable or frustrating. Learning to trust God’s timing requires surrender—letting go of control and believing that He knows what He is doing, even when I cannot yet see the outcome.

Rich Mullins captured this beautifully in his song Step by Step, reminding us that faith is not about rushing ahead but about following faithfully, one step at a time.

Learning to wait does not come naturally to me. Still, I am slowly learning that God’s pace is purposeful, even when mine is impatient. Trust grows in the waiting, even when every part of me wants to run ahead.
