Tonight I watched part of President Obama’s address on health care reforms.  One of the most striking things about the speech was the behavior of Obama’s opponents. It was behavior I would not consider acceptable for a group of middle school students much less our country’s leaders.  The behavior included booing, disapproving comments and other juvenile behavior. This is just one example of unbecoming behavior displayed by those opposing health care reforms. Tactics used by a largely Republican and very vocal opposition have involved the use of sensationalism and scare tactics.   The behavior tonight made me glad that I am not a Republican.

In the name of fairness I’ve also been upset with some of the tactics employed by Obama’s mostly Democrat supporters. Those with legitimate concerns and asking legitimate questions do not need to be intimated. Nor do one’s opponents need to be prevented from speaking out. Further we need straight answers regarding the proposed health care program not the party line.  Some of the things I have heard make me glad I’m not a Democrat either.

It is acceptable to have reservations about the President’s plan or even openly disapprove of it. What I find unacceptable is behavior that is rude and a predisposition to disagree with anything presented by one’s perceived opponents. Our country’s health care system has major problems and is in desperate need of reform. It is time for all parties involved  including the general population to take put aside childish behavior and approach the issue with an open mind.  Like many Americans I have some real concerns and honestly some of the things I have heard about the proposed health care plan scare me. I am tired of propaganda from both sides. I want clear and honest answers. It is time to listen to what both sides have to say and work together for a solution.

  1. Obama’s denial that his health care bill did not cover/imply some critical facts was a complete lie.

Look at the proposed bill and you will find that it will not be possible to keep your own health care plan or doctor.

It will drastically limit healthcare for older adults–even if they can afford to pay for their own medical services.

His bill DOES include free care to illegals.

He grossly under-estimated the cost of his purposed medical care.

One thing is true–if Obama says something is true–DO NOT BELIEVE HIM.

I have a copy of his Obamacare. While it may be appropriate for a socialist or communist country; it IS NOT appropriate for a Republic.

As he cited presidents who were reformers–he completely neglected the intentions of the founding fathers of our nation.

    1. While I may not be totally convinced about the proposed programs. The purpose of my post was the unacceptable behavior of many Republicans. If that kind of behavior had occurred during a middle school assembly the offending student would have been disciplined. Just because one does not support, agree with or even like the President, senators or other elected officials is not an excuse to act in manner that is disrespectful and rude. At the very least we should respect the position. Second, as human beings created in God’s image our elected officials deserve to be treated with common curiosity.

Also, it is unfair to accuse Obama of lying about everything. He may or may not be telling the truth. He wouldn’t be the first president to lie.

    1. #7 the previous administration essentially through away large amounts of bail out money. That will probably never be accounted for and all the while executives with these companies are getting big bonuses.

#24 that particular cop was stupid.

I seem to remember being told that I had to respect teachers because of their position even if they didn’t not deserve it.

I am not supporting the proposed program but do at least have an open mind and am willing to listen. However I’m tired of scare tactics and those that will go along with anything because it is the party line.
