Ok, this is for readers in the Austin, Texas area. Monday a 4-alarm fire struck a complex in the low-income neighborhood of St. John. it took over 100 firefighters, 1/3 of Austin’s force, to fight the fire. many people, including a 8th month pregnant women & some kids, were forced to jump down two floors from their balconies to escape the flames. there are almost 100 (quite possibly more) people that have lost everything. 85 men, women, & children are staying in one shelter that I know of, and many others have gone to stay with other family.
Area churches have been working to help the residents of St. John. Steven Bush has posted quite a bit about the needs of this community and ways to help. You can go to St. John Relief to find out to help.
Great post. I understand Austin Stone Church is doing a great job of responding to this situation. They are posting needs and information on their Twitter feed — http://twitter.com/theaustinstone
