Thank you, Daily Prompt, for asking another great question. The quick answer is my family and a few close friends—but the specifics are where it gets interesting.
My absolute favorite “people” are The Big Guy (TBG) and Leo. Yes, Leo, our Redneck Poodle, definitely counts as a human in this house. He certainly thinks we are all part of the same pack. I’m not even sure he realizes he’s a dog or that we are people; he probably just thinks we’re the same species, except we walk funny and have opposable thumbs.
TBG and I have been together for 28 years and married for 27. There is a very good reason he has kept me around this long: he “gets” me. He is incredibly patient and, let’s be honest, he puts up with my crap. He’s the one who makes me laugh on the rough days and the one who has been right beside me for the best days—like our trips to Disney or the beach. Most importantly, he’s been there for the absolute worst days of my life.
When you find people (and poodles) who stay through the highs and the lows, you don’t need a huge crowd. You just need your pack.
