List five things you do for fun.
I have a plethora of hobbies and interests, so narrowing it down to five was harder than I expected.
Reading. I have been a reader since third grade. Learning to read was not easy for me due to dyslexia. I struggled through first grade and well into second. Something clicked in third grade, and my skills quickly moved above grade level. My mom used to say, “If you can read, you can do anything.” That stuck with me.
Gaming. I am not a hardcore gamer. I prefer card and board games. Spades has always been one of my favorites, even though I rarely get to play. One of my go-to board games is Marvel Legendary. When it comes to video games, Civilization has been a favorite since Civ II.
Travel and exploring new areas. Because of jobs and other responsibilities, we do not travel as much as we once did. We try to take one or two short trips each year. Since moving back to Texas, we have focused on exploring different parts of the state, which has been a fun way to rediscover home.
Hanging out with friends and family. I do not get to do this nearly enough. Most of my closest friends are long-term friendships, and many of us no longer live near each other. When we do get time together, it is always meaningful.
Movies. The Big Guy and I enjoy watching movies, especially Marvel and Star Wars. Most of the time we stream at home. It is rare for us to go to a theater since we do not have one in town, though a nearby town does have a drive-in, which feels like a small win.
At the end of the day, fun does not have to be elaborate or expensive. It shows up in stories, shared laughter, small adventures, and moments of connection. These are the things that help me slow down, recharge, and enjoy the life I have been given.
